REGIONAL SUMMARY: During the thirty-sixth week of 2026, a total of eight disaster events were reported across ASEAN, including droughts, storms, volcanic activity, and wind related disasters. In addition, the impacts of disaster events reported in previous weeks continued into the current reporting period. In Indonesia, the Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana ( BNPB ), reported droughts across Banten, North Sulawesi, Lampung, Gorontalo, and South Sulawesi, and storms, wind-related disasters, and volcanic activity in North Sumatra. In the Philippines, disaster situations continued to be reported by National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council ( NDRRMC ) due to the combined effects of Southwest Monsoon and recent tropical cyclones. HIGHLIGHT: During the thirty-sixth week of 2026, the BNPB reported five drought events, affecting approximately 22K people (6K families) across Banten, North Sulawesi, Lampung, Gorontalo, and South Sulawesi. The largest number of people affected was reported in Minahasa Utara, North Sulawesi, followed by Boalemo in Gorontalo and Bandar Lampung in Lampung. Meanwhile, in the Philippines, the combined effects of the Enhanced Southwest Monsoon and recent tropical cyclones continued to affect Regions I, II, III, IVA, IVB, V, VI, IX, CAR, and NCR. As of the latest NDRRMC report, approximately 9. 5M people (2. 9M families) had been affected, with 43 fatalities, 18 injuries, and five people reported missing. Around 202K people remained displaced, including 89K temporarily sheltering in 932 evacuation centres. Authorities continued to intensify monitoring, coordinate response efforts, and mobilise resources to provide assistance and support to affected communities. The AHA Centre continues to closely monitor the situations and remains ready to support affected ASEAN Member States should the need arise HYDRO-METEO-CLIMATOLOGICAL: During the past week, data from the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre ( ASMC ) across Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia (northern parts of Sumatra and Kalimantan, as well as Papua), Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam. As of reporting, Tropical Cyclone KROVANH is being monitored about 1, 195 km east northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon, Philippines, moving eastward as it enhances the prevailing Southwest Monsoon (PAGASA) GEOPHYSICAL: Four (4) significant earthquakes (M>5. 0) were recorded by Indonesia’s Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika ( BMKG ) and the Philippines Institute of Volcanology and Seismology ( PHIVOLCS ). Mount Semeru (alert level III), Anak Krakatau (alert level III), Ili Lewotolok (alert level II), and Ibu (alert level II) in Indonesia, and Taal (alert level 1), Mayon (alert level 2), Bulusan (alert level 1), and Kanlaon (alert level 2) volcanoes in the Philippines reported recent volcanic activity according to Pusat Vulkanologi dan Mitigasi Bencana Geologi ( PVMBG ) and PHIVOLCS. OUTLOOK: According to the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre ( ASMC ), for the coming week, drier- and warmer-than-usual conditions are expected across much of the southern ASEAN region and parts of southern Mainland Southeast Asia. Extreme hot conditions are expected over southern Borneo and much of the western Maritime Continent, with a moderate increase in likelihood across the rest of the western and central Maritime Continent and a slight increase across the southeastern Maritime Continent, southern Mainland Southeast Asia, and parts of central Mainland Southeast Asia. Strong El Niño conditions are expected to persist until at least the end of 2026, typically bringing drier conditions across much of the Maritime Continent and, to a lesser extent, parts of Mainland Southeast Asia during this period.
