The military leadership said the Shuhada represent the highest ideals of honour, duty and sacrifice. Across the battlefields, skies and seas, generations of Pakistan’s defenders have stood sentinels and made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation, the statement added. The military leadership reiterated that Pakistan seeks peace, stability and prosperity in the region and remains committed to responsible conduct and peaceful coexistence. However, it stressed that the country’s desire for peace should not be mistaken for weakness and warned that any aggression against Pakistan would be met with a swift and decisive response. On Defence and Martyrs’ Day, the Armed Forces renewed their pledge of unwavering devotion to Pakistan and its people. The supreme sacrifices of the Shuhada, the spirit of the Ghazis and the resilience of their families would remain a source of national strength and pride, the ISPR statement said.
