PCB reportedly complains to Sky Sports over Imran Khan sons’ interview

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly lodged a formal complaint with Sky Sports over an interview with the sons of former Pakistan prime minister and cricket captain Imran Khan during coverage of the second Test between England and Pakistan at Lord’s. Kasim and Sulaiman Khan used the 18-minute interview, conducted by former England captain and Sky Sports broadcaster Mike Atherton, to raise concerns about their father’s health and treatment in prison. The interview was broadcast on Thursday. Imran Khan, 73, has been in prison since August 2023. His family and lawyers have repeatedly alleged that his health has deteriorated in custody, including significant loss of vision in his right eye. The Pakistani government has rejected allegations of mistreatment and said medical assessments found no condition requiring urgent treatment. According to the Guardian, Sky Sports acknowledged receiving the PCB’s complaint but declined to comment. The England and Wales Cricket Board was also made aware of the matter but did not comment. The interview comes amid growing concern over Khan’s health. Earlier this month, 21 former international cricket captains wrote to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urging his government to ensure that the former Pakistan captain receives appropriate medical treatment. Pakistan’s Supreme Court on August 18 ordered authorities to transfer Khan from Adiala jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad within 48 hours for medical examination and treatment. The court directed that he be examined by a multidisciplinary medical board, including specialists and his personal physician, and also ordered greater access for his family. Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and family welcomed the ruling, while the government challenged the decision, arguing that transferring a convicted prisoner to a private hospital could set a precedent for other inmates. Khan was instead taken to the state-run Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad for brief treatment related to his eye before being returned to Adiala jail, despite the Supreme Court’s earlier directives.
