PCB ‘Coach Education Schedule’ announced

LAHORE: The ‘PCB Coach Education Schedule’ has been unveiled for the 2026-27 season with a number of new initiatives undertaken, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced on Friday. The Schedule has been compiled by PCB’s Head of Coach Education and Development Shahid Aslam – a former first-class cricketer, in line with National High-Performance objectives and the demands of modern-day cricket. The itinerary includes one tutor training workshop, six Level 1 certification courses, two Level 2 courses for regional coaches, one Level 3 professional course for PCB’s High-Performance coaches, two Level 1 and 2 courses exclusively for women, five Level 1 refresher courses, two Level 1 courses exclusively for school cricket coaches, a specialised course for skill-based coaches and an inaugural PCB coaching conference. Following a review of the coaching practices at the Grassroots level across the country, it has also been decided that the validity of all Level 1 coaching certification will be five years after which the coach will have to reacquire it. The first activity in the schedule is a two-phase Tutor training workshop, which is designed for regional coaches, who will be trained to teach Level 1 coaching course in their respective regions. In the first phase, 20 coaches underwent training at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, while the second phase will take place at the Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre in Karachi. The tutors will then hold a total of six Level 1 certification courses at different times in the 2026-27 season making access to coach education easy for aspirants from far flung areas. Among the new initiatives in Coach Education and Development, it has been decided that aspiring women coaches will be able to attend female-only Level 1 courses, the validity of Level 1 coaching course will be up to five years maximum, School Cricket coaches from Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi will be offered Level 1 courses, a solitary specialised skills course will also be introduced, PCB High-Performance coaches will be taught Level 3 coaching course apart from the inaugural PCB Coaching conference. The coaches in the domestic cricket circuit will also be provided an opportunity to take up Biomechanics courses and will be thoroughly trained to incorporate IT practices in their research, preparation and coaching.
