The National Disaster Centre’s National Emergency Operations Centre (NDC-NEOC), continues to coordinate the government-led response operations in close collaboration with provincial authorities, security forces, and the Disaster Management Team (DMT). Twenty-five (25) affected communities have been assessed across West New Britain, East New Britain and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. (AROB) so far, revealing 7, 247 people affected and 5, 828 people in need of humanitarian assistance. These figures will change as assessments continue. The NDC-NEOC joint assessment and relief teams deployed on 18 April aboard two PNGDF patrol vessels to Rossel and Woodlark islands. Following an official request for national support the previous day, the East New Britain Provincial Government also requested for emergency health support from the World Health Organization (WHO) on 18 April. The South Bougainville district authorities released its Emergency Impact Assessment, Procurement and Relief Assistance Plan to be implemented starting 19 April. PNG Prime Minister James Marape visited the affected Islands in Milne Bay Province 19-20 April.
