Papua New Guinea: Severe Tropical Cyclone Maila – Disaster Management Team Situation Report No. 02, 18 April 2026

Country: Papua New Guinea Source: UN Country Team in Papua New Guinea Please refer to the attached file. The national response to Tropical Cyclone Maila continues with priority focus on Milne Bay Province and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB), under the coordination of the National Disaster Centre’s National Emergency Operations Centre (NDC-NEOC), with ongoing monitoring in East New Britain and West New Britain Provinces. Disaster Management Team (DMT) member agencies under the coordination of the NDC-NEOC are actively responding across affected provinces, supporting government‐led efforts through NEOC and field deployments, assessments, logistics support, and mobilisation of life‐saving relief supplies. Bilateral partners are also contributing to the NEOC-NDC response with essential relief items and logistics support through military assets. In Milne Bay Province, fuel availability for maritime vessels was finally confirmed allowing the deployment of assessment teams and the delivery of immediate life‐saving assistance to affected island communities to commence.
