Pakistan optimistic of resuming stalled mediation efforts

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Tuesday that Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir and he held a “very positive and productive” meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran. In a post on X, Naqvi said the meeting focused on the US-Iran conflict, tensions in the Middle East and the way forward, as well as steps required by both sides to restore the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which could pave the way for a comprehensive settlement of the conflict. “Significant progress has been made, and the meeting concluded on a highly positive note, ” Naqvi said. READ ALSO: CDF Munir, Minister Naqvi reach Iran as Pakistan pushes for regional peace The interior minister’s statement came after Field Marshal Munir and Naqvi concluded a day-long visit to Tehran on Monday. “Our discussion focused on the US-Iran conflict, tensions in the Middle East and the way forward, as well as the steps needed by both sides for restoration of the Islamabad MoU, thereby leading to comprehensive settlement of the conflict, ” Naqvi said. He said President Pezeshkian candidly shared his government’s perspective and concerns, leading to a “very constructive exchange” on the issues involved.
