OMC Sept sales dip 2pc YoY, rise 7pc MoM

KARACHI: Sales of Pakistan’s oil marketing companies (OMCs) stood at 1. 3 million tons in September 2026, down 2 percent year-on-year (YoY) but up 7 percent month-on-month (MoM), according to Topline Research. The increase in monthly sales took OMC volumes during the first quarter of FY27 to 4. 1 million tons, reflecting 6 percent YoY growth, mainly driven by higher furnace oil (FO) sales amid a shift in the power generation mix. Excluding FO, OMC sales in September stood at 1. 25 million tons, down 8 percent YoY but up 8 percent MoM. Ex-FO sales during 1QFY27 reached 3. 8 million tons, remaining flat on a YoY basis. FO sales surged 7 times YoY to 93, 000 tons in September, primarily due to LNG shortages that increased FO consumption for power generation, Topline Research said. FO sales; however, declined 5 percent MoM, which the research house attributed to lower power demand. Ex-FO demand remained under pressure amid a sharp increase in fuel prices. Average motor spirit (MS) prices rose 42 percent YoY to Rs375 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) prices increased 48 percent YoY to Rs401 per litre. Petrol sales declined 5 percent YoY and 2 percent MoM to 652, 000 tons in September. HSD volumes fell 11 percent YoY but increased 25 percent MoM to 525, 000 tons, mainly due to a seasonal factor. Among listed OMCs, Pakistan State Oil (PSO) recorded the highest sales at 639, 000 tons in September, up 12 percent YoY and 12 percent MoM. Its market share increased by 230 basis points to 47. 51 percent, mainly due to higher HSD market share, with the company selling 269, 000 tons of HSD compared to 199, 000 tons in August. Attock Petroleum Limited (APL) recorded sales of 116, 000 tons, unchanged YoY but down 4 percent MoM. Its market share declined by 99 basis points to 8. 62 percent. Wafi Energy Pakistan (WAFI) posted sales of 110, 000 tons in September, down 6 percent YoY but up 2 percent MoM, while Hascol Petroleum Limited (HASCOL) recorded sales of 37, 000 tons, down 14 percent YoY and up 5 percent MoM. PSO was the only listed OMC to record increases in sales on both a YoY and MoM basis during September, according to the research. The combined market share of the four listed OMCs increased by 90 basis points to 67 percent during the month. Researchers expect OMC sales to grow by 8-10 percent during FY27.
