Non-bailable warrants issued for Sohail Afridi, other PTI leaders

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad on Thursday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and three other Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders in a case related to the November 26 protest. The court issued warrants for Sohail Afridi, KP Information Minister Shafi Jan, MNA Shahid Ahmed Khattak and MPA Meena Khan Afridi in a case registered at Ramna Police Station. The ATC judge directed the Station House Officer (SHO) of Ramna Police Station to arrest the four suspects and produce them before the court. The case, registered under terrorism and other serious charges, relates to the alleged involvement of the four PTI leaders in violent protests on November 26, 2024. The November 26 protest was held by PTI workers to build pressure on the government for the release of party founder Imran Khan. The ATC also issued arrest warrants for other PTI leaders in cases registered at different police stations in connection with the November 26 protests. In a case registered at Kohsar Police Station, warrants were issued for Sohail Afridi, Shahid Khattak, Salar Kakakhel, Saddam Tareen and Amjad Ali. At Ramna and Karachi Company police stations, warrants were issued for Sohail Afridi, Junaid Akbar, Shahid Khattak and Atif Khan. At Aabpara Police Station, warrants were issued for Sohail Afridi, Junaid Akbar, Shahid Khattak, Atif Khan, Meena Khan Afridi and Shafi Jan, among others. Sources said warrants already issued against Junaid Akbar and Abdul Ghani in cases related to the D-Chowk protest would also be enforced. They added that warrants against Shibli Faraz, Murad Saeed and Hamad Azhar in Judicial Complex cases would also be acted upon. Legal proceedings against Ali Amin Gandapur and Umar Tanveer Butt in the Faizabad protest case are also set to move forward, sources said. Imran Khan, 73, has been in jail since August 2023 after being convicted in multiple cases. The PTI founder and his party have described the cases against him as politically motivated.
