Country: Nigeria Sources: Emergency Telecommunications Cluster, World Food Programme Please refer to the attached file. Led by the World Food Programme (WFP), the ETS was activated in North-East Nigeria in November 2016 in response to the protection crisis. ETS Nigeria Situation Reports are issued monthly. Summary Points • Escalating attacks across Damboa, Banki, Damasak, Monguno, and Ngoshe have driven new displacement, especially toward Pulka where services are overstretched. To safeguard connectivity in deep-field hubs, the ETS introduced a new security protocol on 16 March, limiting signal coverage to hub perimeters and enforcing user verification. • ETS remotely supported UNDSS Field Security Assistants in deep-field hubs to conduct functionality tests on security communications equipment, helping ensure radios remained fully operational for effective coordination during emergencies. • With only 14. 5 percent of its US$1. 86 million requirement funded, the ETS faces a critical shortfall that threatens essential communications services across the northeast. In response, the ETS prepared a targeted US$600, 000 appeal, paired with a US$700, 000 Logistics Sector appeal, now submitted to suitable donors to secure urgently needed support.
