Project HOPE has established five mobile medical units (MMUs) in Nepal, in coordination with local partners Volunteer Corps Nepal and Partnership for Sustainable Development Nepal. Access to healthcare continues to be strained along the Trishuli River, but Project HOPE’s teams have reached increasingly remote locations as roads are cleared, including at least one community where Project HOPE and our partners were the first to reach families since the disaster. Situational Context Health needs remain high in affected communities and Nepal’s health system is under significant strain as access to communities is still challenging and families are trying desperately to begin recovery while search-and-rescue efforts continue. Damaged infrastructure — including 41 destroyed bridges and blocked highways — is limiting the delivery of available relief supplies in remote communities. Rain in the region has also made passage along some roadways difficult. Tens of thousands have been displaced, affected families require consistent access to healthcare, and At the time of this report, estimates show at least 1, 331 dead and 4, 996 missing in Nepal. Chinese authorities report at least 40 fatalities and 541 missing people missing in Tibet. In the coming months, those displaced, recovering families, and affected communities will need support to meet nearly every basic need across the health; water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH); mental health and psychosocial (MHPSS); food; essential non-food (NFI) item; and other humanitarian sectors.
