Navy, Coast Guards seize narcotics worth USD215m

KARACHI: The Pakistan Navy and the Pakistan Coast Guards, in coordination with the Joint Maritime Information Coordination Centre (JMICC), have seized 2, 000 kilograms of narcotics in a joint intelligence-based operation near the coastline of Gwadar, the Pakistan Navy said on Sunday. According to a statement issued by the Directorate General of Public Relations (Navy), the operation was conducted in Pishukan, near Gwadar, where authorities confiscated 1, 500 kilograms of hashish and 500 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “Ice”. The Pakistan Navy said the seized consignment carried an estimated international market value of approximately USD215 million. According to the statement, the narcotics were being transported through the Arabian Sea for onward shipment to international destinations. The confiscated drugs have been handed over to the Pakistan Coast Guards for further legal proceedings and investigation. The Pakistan Navy said the successful operation demonstrated the effectiveness of inter-agency coordination in combating narcotics smuggling and other illicit maritime activities. It added that the operation also reflected the Pakistan Navy’s commitment to preventing the use of Pakistan’s maritime domain for illegal activities and strengthening maritime security along the country’s coastline.
