NAB Reports Rs2. 45 Trillion in Recoveries, Launches AI-Powered Investigation SystemThe National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has reported direct and indirect recoveries worth Rs2. 452 trillion during the second quarter of 2026, while unveiling a new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered e-investigation system aimed at modernising Pakistan’s accountability process. According to a statement issued by NAB Headquarters, the bureau accelerated its efforts to recover public assets between April and June 2026, reclaiming government land, recovering financial assets and providing compensation to victims of fraud. During the reporting period, NAB recovered more than 1, 078, 283 acres of government land across Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab and Islamabad. NAB Sukkur recorded the largest recovery, reclaiming 853, 678 acres valued at Rs1. 01 trillion. NAB Balochistan recovered 209, 544 acres of forest land worth Rs604. 64 billion, while NAB Karachi reclaimed 11, 422 acres of government land linked to illegal allotments and disputed lease agreements. NAB Islamabad/Rawalpindi also recovered 810 acres associated with Capital Development Authority (CDA) facilitation plots in various housing societies. The bureau also provided financial relief to victims of residential and financial fraud, returning assets and funds worth Rs42. 303 billion to more than 24, 365 affected individuals during the quarter. Alongside its recovery efforts, NAB announced the introduction of an AI-based e-investigation system as part of its institutional reform programme. According to the bureau, the new technology will employ machine learning to identify patterns, analyse large volumes of data and accelerate investigations, enhancing both the efficiency and transparency of the accountability process. NAB described the adoption of artificial intelligence as a major milestone in its ongoing modernisation drive, saying the system would strengthen investigative capabilities and improve institutional performance. The bureau further stated that its cumulative direct and indirect recoveries from March 2023 to June 2026 have reached Rs16. 938 trillion, describing the figure as evidence of its zero-tolerance policy against corruption and its continued commitment to safeguarding national assets.
