NA body informed: NCCIA receives 140 complaints during FY2025-26

ISLAMABAD: A parliamentary panel was told on Wednesday that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) received 140 complaints during the 2025-26 financial year, including 80 cases of cyber financial fraud. In a briefing to National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, chaired by Rana Iradat Sharif Khan, officials said that the complaints had been received through the Prime Minister’s Public Affairs and Grievances Wing and subsequently referred to the NCCIA. The complaints included 29 cases of cyber harassment, 17 of cyber bullying, six of visa fraud and five involving identity theft. Officials said that the NCCIA had adopted a multi-pronged approach to combating cybercrime, involving investigations, digital forensics, coordination with relevant institutions and public awareness campaigns. They said the agency had set up a web-based complaints unit, with reports accepted online, by email, in person at its 15 reporting centres or headquarters, and by post. A representative of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) told the committee that relief had been provided to eligible complainants whose grievances were received through the Prime Minister’s Public Affairs and Grievances Wing. Cases were processed according to the nature of the complaints and the eligibility of applicants, they added. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) told the committee that it had received 18 complaints relating to financial assistance and scholarships for higher studies and 19 concerning laptops under the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme. The HEC said the complaints had been addressed by the relevant authorities in accordance with eligibility criteria.
