Mother, three children killed in Surjani Town; husband detained

Police have registered a murder case after a woman and her three young children were killed at a house in Karachi’s Surjani Town and formed a special team to investigate the incident. The victims were identified as 34-year-old Mahwish, her six-year-old daughter Hira, five-year-old son Hunain and 18-month-old daughter Ashmira. Police said the bodies of Mahwish, Hira and Hunain were found inside the house in Sector 7-D on Monday. Ashmira was found in critical condition and taken to hospital, where she later died. Police suspect the victims were first given a sedative before being attacked. They allegedly suffered severe blows to the head, and their throats were cut with a sharp-edged weapon. The motive for the killings and the exact circumstances of the incident have yet to be established. A murder case has been registered at the Surjani Town police station. SSP West Tariq Mastoi has formed a special team to investigate the case and arrest those responsible. The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of the SP Investigation West and the station house officer. Police have detained Mahwish’s husband for questioning and are also investigating several other people in connection with the killings. Officials said investigators had made significant progress and hoped to resolve the case soon. Police are examining the incident from different angles as the investigation continues. The killings have cast a pall of mourning over the area.
