Militants linked to Fitna Al Khawarij killed in Bannu raid

Two militants linked to the India-backed Fitna Al Khawarij group were in an operation by security forces in the Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, sources said on Monday. The sources said the two militants were killed in an intense exchange of fire after security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation. In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the operation was launched following reports of militant presence in the area. During the ensuing firefight, two militants were killed. According to ISPR, the deceased belonged to the Fitna Al Khawarij network, including its ringleader Wahidullah alias Mukhtar. Officials said a suicide bomber was also killed during the operation. The military’s media wing added that a suicide vest, weapons, and ammunition were recovered from the site. Wahidullah was considered the most-wanted militant involved in attacks on security forces and civilians. The ISPR said the slain terrorist was also the main facilitator of the February 21, 2026, attack in which Lieutenant Colonel Gul Faraz was martyred. The sources said timely action by security forces averted a major tragedy, adding that a clearance operation is continuing in the area. Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the security forces for the successful operation, paying tribute to the personnel for eliminating high-value targets. He said the nation is proud of its security forces and stands firmly with them in the fight against terrorism.
