Mikaeel Ali Baig makes history with ITF J200 doubles title in Japan

LAHORE – Pakistan’s No. 1 internationally ranked junior Mikaeel Ali Baig captured the prestigious ITF J200 doubles title in Miki, Japan, becoming what is believed to be the first Pakistani junior in more than three decades to win an international junior title at this level since Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi. The 16-year-old achieved the feat through a remarkable run. Playing as an unseeded team with a partner from Botswana, Mikaeel defeated the No. 2-seeded Japanese pair in the opening round, followed by the No. 3-seeded Australian team in the semifinals. In the championship match, the unseeded duo completed their run by defeating the No. 1-seeded Australian pair 7-5, 6-2, giving Mikaeel one of the biggest titles of his junior career. A week earlier at the ITF J100 in Kawaguchi, Japan, Mikaeel reached the semifinals in both singles and doubles before stepping up to J200 competition and lifting the trophy in Miki. The champion dedicated the victory to his mother, Ayesha Ali Baig, who accompanied him throughout the Japan campaign despite facing significant health challenges over the past year. He also expressed his gratitude to the Pakistan Tennis Federation for its continued efforts to grow and develop tennis in Pakistan, and to PTF President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi for his continuous support and encouragement.
