LHC dismisses Rizwan’s petition against NCCIA proceedings

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has dismissed star cricketer Mohammad Rizwan’s petition challenging proceedings initiated against him by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). LHC Chief Justice Aalia Neelum heard Rizwan’s petition on Thursday and directed the wicketkeeper-batsman to respond to the questions raised by the NCCIA before dismissing the plea, sources said. Rizwan had approached the LHC through his counsel Qazi Umair Ali, questioning the NCCIA’s jurisdiction and the nature of its investigation. He had also sought a halt to the agency’s proceedings until a final decision on his petition. In his plea, the wicketkeeper-batter maintained that the agency had not specified any particular allegation against him and questioned why the NCCIA was investigating an unspecified allegation. During the hearing, the court directed Rizwan to answer the NCCIA’s questions and dismissed his petition. The NCCIA had issued questionnaires to Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq as part of its investigation. Both players were required to submit their responses by September 15, with Imam having already submitted his answers. Rizwan and Imam were recalled from the England tour, following which investigations were launched against the two players.
