Heatwave set to ease across Sindh but light rain expected

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that the prevailing heatwave conditions gripping Sindh province are likely to subside by Saturday, June 13, bringing some relief to residents enduring days of intense heat. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued an advisory on Friday to all Deputy Commissioners and District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) across Sindh, urging precautionary measures as weather conditions evolve over the coming days. According to the PMD, a westerly weather system over the upper parts of the country is driving intense heating and moisture, which may trigger duststorms, thunderstorms, and isolated spells of light rain in parts of the province. The districts of Kashmore, Shikarpur, Ghotki, Jamshoro, Dadu, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Tando Allahyar, Khairpur, Umerkot, and Tharparkar are expected to experience such conditions on Saturday. On Sunday, June 14, similar weather is forecast for the districts of Dadu, Qambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Khairpur. Authorities have warned that strong windstorms accompanying these weather events could damage weak structures, including solar panels, electric poles, and billboards. Electricity demand is also expected to remain elevated during the forecast period. The public, particularly children, women, and senior citizens, has been advised to exercise extra caution and avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight between 10 am and 4 pm. Residents are urged to stay hydrated and make judicious use of water. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
