Guard killed as under-construction BRT bridge collapses in Karachi

A security guard was killed after part of an under-construction bridge collapsed near Bait-ul-Mukarram Mosque in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area on Thursday, rescue officials said. The collapsed structure was part of the city’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, according to Rescue 1122 officials. Rescue teams reached the site after being alerted to the incident and launched an operation to clear the debris. They later recovered the guard’s body from underneath the rubble. The victim was performing security duties at the construction site when the structure collapsed, a Rescue 1122 spokesperson said. Officials said the rescue operation had been completed and no other person was trapped under the debris. No other injuries were reported.
