Forecast of rains, thunderstorms across Sindh

KARACHI: The Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an advisory in view of forecast of intermittent rains, thunderstorms and gusty winds in several parts of the province until September 16. This prompted the authorities to put emergency response agencies on high alert. Sindh Chief Minister’s Adviser on Disasters Management and Rehabilitation Gianchand Esrani directed the PDMA and Sindh Emergency Rescue Service 1122 to remain fully prepared to deal with any possible emergency and ensure that all necessary arrangements are completed in advance. According to the advisory, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal and Tando Muhammad Khan are likely to experience rain accompanied by winds and thunderstorms. Lightto moderate rainfall is also expected in Sanghar, Khairpur, Hyderabad, TandoAllahyar, Matiari, Shaheed Benazirabad and Jamshoro. Karachi division may receive intermittent light rain accompanied by thunderstorms from September 14 to 16, the adviser said. Esrani directed all deputy commissioners, district disaster management authorities and other relevant departments to keep emergency machinery, dewatering equipment and personnel ready for immediate deployment. He ordered continuous monitoring of low-lying areas, rainwater drains and other vulnerable locations. He said that dewatering machinery and other emergency resources must remain operational throughout the period. “Protection of citizens’ lives and property is our foremost priority, ” Esrani said, directing the PDMA and rescue agencies to maintain a high state of preparedness to respond swiftly to any untoward incident. He also urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather and exercise maximum caution in areas vulnerable to rain-related hazards. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
