ECB must be prepared to lift interest rates further, top policymaker tells FT

The European Central Bank must not shy away from more interest rate rises if inflation “starts moving in the wrong direction”, Governing Council member Gabriel Makhlouf told the Financial Times in an interview published on Wednesday. Makhlouf said the central bank’s decision next week will not be a surprise, adding that he expected the ECB would also “slightly” raise its growth forecast for the euro zone this year.
