Situation update • As of 21 September, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) had reported more than 7, 700 confirmed Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD) cases, including over 3, 700 deaths, across 63 health zones in seven provinces. Transmission remained widespread, with daily case numbers continuing to fluctuate and geographic spread persisting despite recent declines in some affected areas. • The outbreak remains a public health emergency. The World Health Organization (WHO) and response partners continue to prioritize surveillance, contact tracing, clinical preparedness and treatment capacity, infection prevention and control measures, and community engagement activities. • Weekly cross-border coordination calls with Uganda continue to support the exchange of situation updates, lessons learned, and preparedness measures, helping to strengthen regional readiness and response efforts.
