DR Congo: Bundibugyo Virus Disease Outbreak | Situation Report, Issue No. 10 – May 27, 2026

Executive Summary As of May 27, 2026, the Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD) outbreak continues to escalate across the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda. A total of 129 confirmed cases and 18 deaths from confirmed cases have been recorded. The epidemic is characterised by significant morbidity among healthcare workers (HCWs), a mounting backlog in diagnostic testing, and substantial operational challenges, including insecurity and community resistance. While response mechanisms such as National Task Forces are active, the Case Fatality Rate (CFR) among confirmed cases remains high in certain regions, and international travel restrictions are tightening as the global community monitors the situation.
