D-Chowk protest: Azam Swati acquitted

ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Khan Swati in a case registered over the party’s October 4, 2024 protest at D-Chowk. ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra announced the verdict on Swati’s acquittal application in the case registered at Noon Police Station. During the hearing, the judge addressed Swati, saying, “Swati Sahib, no prosecution witness has testified against you. ” The judge further observed that although the prosecution had alleged that Swati provided financial assistance for the protest, it failed to present any bank account records or other evidence to substantiate the allegation. He also noted that Swati was already in jail when the case was registered. The judge clarified that Swati’s acquittal would have no bearing on the other accused, whose trial will continue separately, as the allegations against them are different.
