Commissioner orders steps to curb dog-bite incidents

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi has directed district administrations to intensify measures to prevent dog-bite incidents in the city and ensure the availability of anti-rabies vaccines and treatment facilities at designated hospitals. Chairing a meeting with Deputy Commissioners, Naqvi reviewed the functioning of Dog Bite Centres, vaccine availability and measures to control the stray-dog population. DC South Javed Nabi Khosa told the meeting that Dog Bite Centres at Lyari General Hospital, Civil Hospital and Jinnah Hospital were fully operational and had sufficient stocks of anti-rabies vaccine. Naqvi directed officials to ensure timely treatment of affected citizens and continuous monitoring of the centres. The meeting also decided to prepare a coordinated plan with Town Municipal Administrations to control the stray-dog population, including possible neutralisation and tagging measures.
