‘Coalition partners taken on board’: Aurangzeb hints at presenting budget on 10th

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Wednesday indicated that the government was moving towards presenting the federal budget on June 10, while acknowledging continued consultations with coalition partners and stakeholders amid unresolved differences between the ruling alliance partners over key fiscal matters. Speaking to the media after meetings with coalition stakeholders, Aurangzeb described the discussions as very positive saying another round of consultations would take place later this week. “We have to move forward while taking the International Monetary Fund (IMF), coalition partners and all stakeholders along, ” Aurangzeb said, adding that the government intended to present a meaningful budget on June 10. An official statement issued from the office of Deputy Prime Minister noted that the government and senior leadership of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have reached a consensus to recommend to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif that the Federal Budget for the fiscal year 2026–27 be presented on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. The proposal emerged during high-level consultations between coalition partners aimed at finalizing the budget schedule and ensuring smooth parliamentary proceedings. Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar along with Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, held a detailed meeting Wednesday with senior leaders of the Pakistan People’s Party as part of routine pre-budget consultations ahead of the federal budget. The discussions focused on current expenditure and development spending priorities, including the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), as well as broader economic priorities such as fiscal sustainability, public welfare measures, development initiatives, and inclusive growth for the fiscal year 2026–27. The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, MNA Syed Naveed Qamar, Senator Sherry Rehman, Senator Saleem Mandviwala, Sindh Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, Federal Secretary Finance Imdadullah Bosal, Chairman FBR Rashid Mahmood Langrial and other senior officials from the concerned ministries and departments.
