LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the electric bus service in Multan and boarded an electric bus from the e-bus stop established at Agro Mall on Shujaabad Road. She travelled by electric bus to the venue of a ceremony at Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture. The Chief Minister received a warm public welcome on Old Shujaabad Road, where thousands of children, youth, students and elderly people gathered to welcome her. Thousands of maunds of rose petals were showered on her vehicle, while children carrying flowers and pictures walked alongside the vehicle. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif formally launched the e-bus project digitally. She received a warm welcome upon arrival at the ceremony venue, which continued to reverberate with slogans in her honour. Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar briefed the gathering on the details of the e-bus project. In the first phase, 45 electric buses will operate in Multan. The routes will include Vehari Chowk to Nishtar Hospital, Ghanta Ghar to Ibn-e-Sina Hospital, Dera Adda via DHA and Women University to the e-Khidmat Centre, and Chungi No. 9 to Nag Shah, NADRA Abad Phatak. Electric bus services will also be available from Multan Vehari Chowk to Qasim Bela and from Ghanta Ghar to Qadirpur Raan. In the first phase, 160 electric buses will operate in different cities and areas of Multan Division, while a total of 205 electric buses will be operated across the division.
