Cherat Packaging commissions 2.7MW solar power plant at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Cherat Packaging Limited (CPPL) said on Wednesday it had commissioned 2. 7 MW Solar Power plant at its Factory Site Gadoon Amazai, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The company informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange in a notice today. “This is in addition to 1 MW Solar Power plant already installed, ” the listed company shared. The company said that the plant will contribute towards cost savings while supporting environmental sustainability through the use of clean and renewable energy. CPPL was incorporated as a public limited company in 1989 and is engaged in the manufacturing, marketing and sale of paper sacks, polypropylene bags and flexible packaging material. CPPL has a production capacity of 265 million paper bags and 195 million polypropylene bags per year. It is the largest supplier of packaging material to the cement industry of Pakistan, including bags made from kraft paper and polypropylene granules. Moreover, CPPL has expanded its business horizons by supplying packaging material to sugar, chemicals and other allied industries. There has been a growing shift towards alternative energy sources in Pakistan, especially solar, which has become increasingly popular among residential and commercial sectors. The country’s solar power push has cushioned the full impact of the war in the Middle East despite lingering concerns over fuel supplies and rising prices. A study published in March assessed that the uptake of solar around 2018 helped the country avoid more than $12 billion in oil and gas imports up to February this year. At projected market prices, it could save a further $6. 3 billion by the end of 2026, said Renewables First and the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air.
