Canadian superstar Celine Dion is set to return to the stage on Saturday for her first full concert since revealing her diagnosis with Stiff Person Syndrome, as fans prepare for her 26-show run in Paris. The 58-year-old singer will begin her residency at the Plenitude Arena outside Paris, with around 30, 000 fans expected to attend each night. The 26-date run includes 16 sold-out shows in September and October, followed by another 10 concerts next May. Dion’s diagnosis forced her to cancel performances and left her struggling to sing. She revealed in December 2022 that she had been diagnosed with the rare and incurable condition, which can cause severe muscle stiffness and painful spasms. Fans have travelled to Paris for the comeback, with some describing the opportunity to see Dion perform again as a long-awaited moment. Dion, whose hits include “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now”, “Because You Loved Me” and “My Heart Will Go On”, has sold around 260 million albums in English and French during her four-decade career. The singer surprised fans with an appearance at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony, where she performed Edith Piaf’s “Hymn to Love” from the Eiffel Tower. Even fans without concert tickets have gathered outside the Royal Monceau hotel, where Dion has regularly appeared to interact with admirers. Dion has kept details of the Paris shows, including the setlist, largely under wraps. She has hinted that the concerts will be longer than her usual one-hour-and-40-minute performances and advised ticket holders to wear comfortable shoes.
