CDF arrives in Turkiye on 2-day official visit

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir arrived in Türkiye on a two-day official visit on Monday, where he is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with the country’s military and political leadership to discuss bilateral defence cooperation, regional security and other matters of mutual interest. According to state media, Field Marshal Munir was accorded a warm welcome upon his arrival. During the visit, he will engage with senior Turkish officials to further strengthen the longstanding strategic partnership between Pakistan and Türkiye. The visit comes weeks after Commander of the Turkish Land Forces General Metin Tokel visited Pakistan and held talks with the army chief at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the two military leaders discussed matters of mutual professional interest, the evolving regional security environment and avenues to enhance bilateral defence cooperation. During his visit, General Tokel also called on Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu. The meetings focused on strengthening military-to-military cooperation, enhancing defence collaboration and exchanging views on regional security, including the maritime domain. The Turkish commander lauded the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces and acknowledged their contribution to regional peace and stability, according to the ISPR. Pakistan and Türkiye maintain close strategic relations, with defence cooperation remaining a cornerstone of bilateral ties through regular high-level exchanges, joint military exercises, defence production and training initiatives.
