The 2026 monsoon season in Bangladesh triggered severe flash floods and devastating landslides. The disaster affected seven districts, with the Chattogram Division being the hardest-hit region. Driven by torrential monsoon rainfall, active depressions over the Bay of Bengal, and intense hill torrents, the crisis escalated rapidly from early July through August 2026. A total of 36, 550 people sought refuge in 1, 722 evacuation shelters. The floods and landslides resulted in 59 fatalities and 293 injuries. The disaster damaged more than 54, 000 houses across the seven affected districts, with an estimated US$37 million required for housing repair and reconstruction. As of 23 August 2026, the Government of Bangladesh had allocated 4, 200 bundles of CGI sheets and provided US$105, 000 in housing grants. Humanitarian partners have supported 7, 750 households with essential household items (EHIs), while 1, 371 households have received shelter repair assistance. To date, a total of US$745, 017 has been mobilized for shelter support. Despite these efforts, significant shelter needs remain, and additional assistance is required to support affected communities.
