Attacks on Health Care in Myanmar: 27 May – 09 June 2026:

Country: Myanmar Source: Insecurity Insight Attacks on Health Care in Myanmar Data collected by Insecurity Insight shows that since the military coup on 01 February 2021 and 24 May 2026 at least 1, 939 incidents of violence against or obstruction of access to health care took place across Myanmar: equivalent to one attack on health care every day for more than five years 65% of these attacks were attributed to the Myanmar Armed Forces (MAF) 175 health workers were killed and 931 arrested health facilities were damaged on at least 506 occasions Incidents involving drones armed with explosive weapons affected health care 83 times during the reporting period. These incidents shifted between conflict parties over time and across regions/states, from mainly local defense forces in the Sagaing region in the early years following the coup to the MAF, primarily in the Mandalay and Sagaing regions and Kayin and Rakhine state from 2025 onward. These incidents underscore how armed drones have become an escalating threat in conflict settings. Adapting to this risk means rethinking security measures for health facilities. There is a delay in reporting incidents due to our open-source verification protocol. 01 June 2026: In Let Yet Ma village and village tract, Myaing township, Pakokku district, Magway region, a station hospital and a nearby house were damaged by two Myanmar military kamikaze drones at around 12 noon. At least two women were injured. The hospital was not functioning at the time of the attack. Source: People’s Spring 04 June 2026: In Si Thar village and village tract, Shwegu township, Bhamo district, Kachin state, a station hospital, four houses, and an office of the Kachin Independence Organisation (KIO) were damaged by three 500-pound bombs dropped by a Myanmar military fighter jet at around 0800hrs. The three buildings of the hospital caught fire. At least three people were killed at the hospital.
