ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday ordered the blocking of passports of leaders including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, PTI provincial president Junaid Akbar and others in a case registered in connection with the November 26 protest. ATC Judge Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain issued the order regarding blockage of passports of 24 parliamentarians, including Members of National Assembly (MNAs) and Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs), at the request of police in a case registered at the Kohsar Police Station. According to the court order, the passports of Sohail Afridi, MNAs and MPAs including Asad Qaiser, Sheram Tarkai, Shah Ahmad, Sher Ali Arbab, Muhammad Iqbal Afridi, Dr Amjad Ali, Junaid Akbar, Shahid Khattak, Zubair Wazir, Omar Ayub, Arshad Umarzai, Zar Alam, Mian Umar, Akhtar Khan, Humayun Khan, Riaz Khan, Abdul Kabir Khan, Tufail Anjum, Asif Mehsud, Ajab Gul, Muhammad Usman, Babar Saleem Swati, Irfan Saleem, Advocate Ali Zaman and Malik Shahab have been ordered to be blocked. During the hearing, the investigating officer (IO) requested the court to order the blocking of passports as the accused could flee the country to evade the legal process. The court approved the IO’s request and directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to block the passports of the accused until further orders. The court order says that the accused faced serious allegations, including attacks on state institutions and promotion of terrorism. The accused had also failed to appear before the court, the order said. Those who had obtained interim bail had also not joined the investigation, it added. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
