Afghanistan: EMR Polio Bulletin World Health Organization – Regional Office for Eastern Mediterranean Issue No. 1452, Week 30 (ending on 02/08/2026)

Wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) Cases: No new WPV1 positive cases reported this week. In total, 52 WPV1-positive cases have been confirmed in 2025 (21 from Afghanistan and 31 from Pakistan in 2025) and 18 WPV1 cases reported in 2026 (15 from Afghanistan and 3 from Pakistan). Environment: Six new WPV1 positive environmental samples in 2026 from Pakistan were reported this week. The new WPV1 environmental samples are 4 from Sindh province (1 each from Kashmore district, Karachi South, Karachi East, and Karachi Central towns) with collection dates between 2nd to 8th July 2026. In total, 745 WPV1-positive environmental samples have been reported in 2025 (94 from Afghanistan and 651 from Pakistan) and 161 WPV1-positive environmental samples reported in 2026 (53 from Afghanistan and 108 from Pakistan).
