Creation of new provinces: ‘Any decision without consensus would fail to yield positive results’

LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party Central Punjab General Secretary Syed Hassan Murtaza said on Wednesday that while the constitutional procedure for creating new provinces is clear and open to discussion, any decision imposed without consensus would fail to yield positive results. He stated this while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Peoples Logistic Wing in Sagian, organized by Tanveer Jutt. Murtaza criticised the government’s handling of recent flooding in the twin cities and demanded accountability for those responsible for the PIMS hospital incident. He also questioned the government’s capacity to create new provinces when it had failed to hold local body elections or implement the NFC award, and accused it of favoring middlemen over local farmers in wheat procurement. Tanveer Jutt, President of the Peoples Logistic Wing, announced plans for a truck rally from Nasir Bagh to Governor House on September 21, marking PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s birthday. Several new members also joined the party at the event. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
