Naqvi directs Rescue 1122 to form Capital Emergency Services

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday expressed annoyance over the lack of a fully integrated Rescue 1122 and directed the relevant authorities to take measures for setting up the Capital Emergency Services as a fully operational institution. Naqvi issued these directives during a meeting attended by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman. The meeting reviewed ongoing development projects in the federal capital. Naqvi asked the authority to complete all legal formalities and start setting up of four new emergency services centres on an immediate basis. It is pertinent to mention here that the minister, during a meeting held in May, 2024 had issued directives to merge Ambulance, fire brigade and water rescue services under Capital Emergency Services. He said that citizens will be able to avail emergency services by calling at Rescue 1122 in case of any emergency, and a unified emergency control room will be established in the civic body for live tracking of vehicles through GPS. The Interior Minister said that two new underpasses will be constructed in the city-one at Kashmir Chowk and another at Faisal Mosque to ensure smooth flow of traffic. The minister said that the construction of both the underpasses will be started next month. The meeting also discussed different proposals to raise the CDA revenue. The minister asked the authority to frame a long-term revenue model to achieve financial self-sufficiency, as institutional financial stability is mandatory to ensure sustained development. The minister directed CDA to complete the Expressway Service Road Project during the stipulated time period. The CDA officials also briefed the meeting regarding the progress of different development projects in the city. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
