Alight Sudan – Cholera Outbreak, West Kordofan State, Sudan (1st – 29th July 2026)

Situation Overview In close coordination with the State Ministry of Health (SMoH), Alight continues to respond to the ongoing cholera outbreak in the Foga administration unit of West Kordofan. The outbreak initially began on May 13 as Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD) and was confirmed and declared by FMOH as cholera cases on 23rd June 2026. However, since May 20, comprehensive treatment, prevention, and control measures have been actively implemented at the Foga Cholera Treatment Center (CTC) and supported Cholera Treatment Units (CTUs), including Elregieg, Wad Banda, and Al Fula, with continued involvement of rapid response teams (RRTs) across affected localities. Alight maintained response coordination, transportation of outbreak supplies (cholera kits), treatment, infection prevention and control (IPC), and daily admission monitoring in line with national cholera response guidance, supported by coordinated community follow-up and surveillance updates. By the end of the July reporting period, cumulative admissions stood at 833, with 753 recoveries and 84 reported deaths.
