CM, Portuguese envoy discuss bilateral ties

LAHORE: Acknowledging the Pakistan’s diplomatic role in promoting lasting peace and stability in the Middle East, Portuguese Ambassador Paulo Domingues assured that Portuguese authorities would provide a favourable environment for Pakistani investors seeking business opportunities in Portugal. The ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in the Iran-US negotiations and lauded the provincial government for establishing the country’s first public-sector cancer hospital. He also acknowledged Punjab’s record achievements in the health sector. The Portuguese Ambassador called on Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday and agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations, with both sides discussing cooperation in trade, agriculture, livestock and other sectors of mutual interest. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed a proposal to establish a Pakistan-Portugal Business Forum to promote business and investment ties. The chief minister invited Portuguese companies to invest and do business in Punjab and assured the ambassador of expanding cooperation in tourism and other areas of shared interest. The meeting also featured detailed discussions on declaring Lahore and Lisbon as twin cities to promote cultural and educational exchanges.
