Thirty newly elected members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly took the oath at the inaugural session of the assembly on Monday. Nazir Ahmed, who chaired the assembly session, administered the oath. Thirty out of 33 members took the oath, as notifications for three constituencies have been delayed due to court orders. The assembly is also expected to hold the election of the speaker, deputy speaker and leader of the house during the same sitting. PPP leaders Nayyar Bukhari and Qamar Zaman Kaira also witnessed the proceedings from the visitors’ gallery. In a parallel political development, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) have announced their intention to form a coalition government with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
