South Sudan: Cholera Outbreak Situation Report No. 78 (Reporting date: 2 June 2026)

Key Weekly Highlights as of 01 June 2026 • In the past week, 221 new suspected cases and 2 deaths (CFR: 0. 9%) were reported across 5 counties, a 38. 1% decrease from the cases reported last week (358 cases). • In the last 14 days of reporting (onset from 19 May 2026 to 01 June 2026), 660 new cases and 3 deaths (CFR: 0. 5%) were reported in 5 counties. Most of these cases came from Rubkona (465, 70. 5%), Mayom (131, 19. 8%), Renk (40, 6. 1%) and Panyijiar (16, 2. 4%). • From 28 September 2024 to 01 June 2026, 104, 813 cases, including 1, 680 deaths have been reported in 55 counties, across 9 states and all three administrative areas (i. e. , Abyei, Ruweng and Greater Pibor). • Of the 1, 680 deaths, 836 (49. 8%) occurred in health facilities, while the rest were community deaths. The overall case fatality rate (CFR) is 1. 6%, while the health facility CFR is 0. 8%. • Unity State continue to account for the highest burden of cholera cases at 34% (35, 697) followed by Jonglei State at 15% (15, 376) and Central Equatorial State at 12% (12, 798) of the cumulative cases. • The age group with highest case count is 0-4 years (24%) followed by those aged 5-14 years (22%). • Active transmission remains concentrated in Unity State, particularly in Mayom and Rubkona. • In the last 2 weeks, the outbreak is now geographically limited to three states: Unity, Lakes, and Upper Nile, largely driven by conflict and poor WASH conditions especially among displaced and returnee/refugee populations.
