AMDA Emergency Relief #54: Crisis in Ukraine, 7 May 2026

Country: Ukraine Source: Association of Medical Doctors of Asia Please refer to the attached file. Activity Report: City of Goodness (Ukraine) – December 2025 – March 2026 In response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, AMDA has been continuously aiding the City of Goodness, a medical organization based in Chernivtsi in the nation’s southwestern region. Situated in an area far from the front lines, the organization provides shelter for mothers and children who fled the conflict, orphans, and families escaping domestic violence and poverty. The organization also runs the Butterfly House, a children’s hospice providing palliative care for minors suffering from serious illnesses. During an online meeting held on 18 March, representatives of the City of Goodness shared updates on the current situation. While Ukraine experienced the harshest winter in the last four years, frequent air strikes targeting energy infrastructure have continued in Chernivtsi, which had been regarded as relatively safe. Because of this, residents have been forced to endure a limited power supply for nearly two months, with electricity available for only two hours or so each day. This also posed another problem for the organization that needed to power essential medical equipment and heating systems. Since it has relied on gasoline-run generators to make up for the power shortage, the fuel cost became quite hefty (approximately 10, 000 USD per month), obliging it to suspend some of the ongoing projects. Meanwhile, air raid alerts have also continued to sound every other day since March, forcing residents to spend some nights in underground shelters. Despite these difficult circumstances, the children were able to enjoy the snow for the first time in a long while, playing outside. At Christmas, everyone at the facility enjoyed a special performance by one of Ukraine’s leading choirs. During the online meeting, one of the staff members emphasized the importance of continued support: “The activities we shared with you today are only possible because of the people who continue to support us. AMDA’s assistance brings stability to our work. Knowing that there are people standing with us gives us strength and enables us to continue providing medical services, including palliative care for children in need. It also gives hope to the mothers, children, and families who have lost everything and finally found safety and peace here at our facility. ” AMDA will continue supporting the City of Goodness and its humanitarian activities in Ukraine.
