Dominican Republic – Floods, update (IFRC, NOAA-CPC, INDOMET) (ECHO Daily Flash of 28 April 2026)

Country: Dominican Republic Source: European Commission’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations Since 8 April, the Dominican Republic continues to experience ongoing heavy rainfall that has caused widespread flooding and landslides. According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), 13 people died, with two persons reported injured. Around 92 000 people have been displaced or evacuated, and about 172 000 affected. For the next 48 hours, moderate to locally heavy rainfall is forecast across most parts of the country. National authorities continue to maintain weather alerts in 21 provinces because of the risk of river overflow and landslides.
