More than 105, 000 cases of alleged abduction of women have been reported in Punjab over the past five years, according to a report submitted by the provincial police chief to the Lahore High Court. The report, filed by the Inspector General of Punjab Police, stated that 105, 571 cases were registered between 2021 and 2025, with over 70, 000 filed under Section 365. It revealed that 80, 767 cases were later cancelled, while in 77% of cases, women told courts they had not been abducted but had left home voluntarily for marriage. Currently, 3, 864 cases remain under investigation across the province. Police have recovered 612 women, while 3, 258 are still missing, the report said. Suspects have been nominated in 1, 432 cases, where investigations are ongoing. The IG Punjab said district officers have been directed to strictly monitor investigations, warning that negligence or misconduct would result in disciplinary action.
