Doctor shot dead near Sharea Faisal in Karachi

A doctor was shot dead near Sharea Faisal in Karachi on Monday night, police confirmed on Tuesday. The incident took place near Mehran Hotel, where Dr Sarang Memon was travelling with his wife. Police said he was hit by four bullets on the chest and legs, with the chest injury proving fatal. He was taken to a hospital by his wife in a rickshaw, where doctors confirmed his death. The body was later handed over to his brother. According to police, the deceased worked at a private hospital in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and lived near the Karachi Press Club. The body was sent to his native town of Badin. Police said he was travelling with his wife in a rickshaw when the incident occurred. Investigations are underway from multiple angles. Officials said one of his brothers, an MBBS student at Liaquat University, had drowned in Jamshoro, while another was shot dead in Badin during unrest after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. A case will be registered after the burial on the complaint of the family, police said.
