November 4 th, 2026 ― Doha, Qatar: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has concluded a livelihood project for poor families in Gaza, which involved the provision of vocational training for 60 graduates, to help them start their own small businesses, at a total cost of $234, 000. Dr. Akram Nassar, head of QRCS’s representation office in Gaza, explained that the initiative was designed as a targeted response to high unemployment rates, capitalizing on the potential of youths and empowering them to work as entrepreneurs. The beneficiaries received specialized training in digital marketing, graphic design, user interface (UI) design, and mobile app development. Furthermore, they participated in internships to qualify for online freelance jobs. According to Dr. Nassar, the project also involved temporary jobs for 23 graduates as psychosocial support (PPS) service providers for children, women, older persons, and other vulnerable people at the camps and shelters of internally displaced people (IDPs) across the blockade. Those who demonstrated professional competence were hired by the Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children (ASDC), turning their short-term employment into lifelong careers. One of the beneficiaries was Ibrahim (23), who received vocational training in mobile app programming. “To me, it was not just a course, ” he commented. “It was an exceptional milestone in my journey to become a professional. I acquired much more knowledge and expertise than my whole undergraduate education”. The young man added, “I gained the advanced software engineering skills needed to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in streamlining and developing source codes professionally. This transformation enabled me to practice outsourced project and app marketing for overseas clients. Dreams come true! Now, I can earn my own living”. In Gaza, QRCS attaches great importance to youth empowerment, with a view to reducing unemployment rates and strengthening the population’s resilience. Given the catastrophic impact of war, QRCS has plans to launch more livelihood projects for the benefit of 600 farmer families, including land reclamation, installation of greenhouses and solar panels, irrigation system repairs, provision of seeds and fertilizers, and establishment of 500 crop yielding gardens. To raise the QR 6. 4 million funding required for these schemes to become a reality, the benevolent donors are invited to contribute to such noble efforts via QRCS’s website (www. qrcs. org. qa), mobile app(QRCS), donor services hotline (66666364), home donation collection hotline (33998898), and donation collection agents/desks at malls and shopping centers. About Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) Established in 1978, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is Qatar’s first humanitarian and volunteering organization that aims to assist and empower vulnerable individuals and communities without partiality or discrimination. QRCS is an active member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which consists of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and 191 National Societies. It is also a member of several GCC, Arab, and Islamic organizations, such as the Islamic Committee of International Crescent (ICIC) and the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization (ARCO). In this legally recognized capacity, QRCS has access to disaster and conflict zones, thus serving as an auxiliary to the State of Qatar in its humanitarian and social efforts — a role that distinguishes it from other local charities and NGOs. Both locally and internationally, QRCS has relief and development operations in numerous countries throughout the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Europe, and Central and South America. Its humanitarian mandates include disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and risk reduction. To mitigate the impact of disasters and improve the livelihoods of affected populations, QRCS provides medical services, food, water, shelter, and other needs of local communities. It is also active at the humanitarian diplomacy and advocacy front. With the help of a vast network of trained, committed staff and volunteers, QRCS aspires to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity, inspired by the seven Fundamental Principles of humanitarian action: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.
