Statement by OCHA Sudan on recent attacks in West Kordofan State

(Khartoum, 11 October 2026) OCHA is deeply concerned by reports of a deadly drone strike on 9 October that hit a building sheltering displaced families in An Nuhud, West Kordofan State. At least 12 civilians, including women and children, were reportedly killed and eight others injured. On the same day, a drone strike in Ghubaish town reportedly killed five civilians, including three children, in a residential neighbourhood hosting displaced families. These were people who had already been forced from their homes by conflict, only to face further violence in places where they had sought safety. The increasing frequency of drone strikes across Sudan is deeply alarming, exposing civilians, including displaced families, to further death, injury and suffering. International humanitarian law must be respected, and civilians and civilian infrastructure protected. People fleeing violence must be able to find safety, not face further threats to their lives. *** For more information, please contact: Dan Teng’o, dan. tengo@un. org; +249 91 253 2791
