A crude oil tanker was struck by an unknown projectile off the coast of Oman on Friday, with all crew members reported safe, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The vessel’s master reported that the tanker was hit on its port side about four nautical miles east of Oman, UKMTO said. No environmental damage was reported following the incident, it added. Authorities are investigating the incident, while UKMTO advised vessels transiting the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity. The Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world’s oil and LNG passed before the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran in late February and sparked the Middle East war, remains at the heart of the conflict.
