CM pays tribute to APNS, journalists

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in a special message on Readers’ Day highlighting the importance of newspaper reading, has congratulated journalists associated with the print media, office-bearers and members of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), and representatives of all organisations associated with the print media. The chief minister also paid tribute to newspaper readers for their continued interest in print journalism. She said newspapers had played an important role in creating awareness among the people and guiding public opinion in the right direction throughout history. The chief minister said newspapers had awakened the spirit of freedom among the people during the Pakistan Movement. The role of journalists alongside political activities during the freedom struggle was also an important part of history, she added. Maryam Nawaz Sharif said her passion for reading newspapers was inherited and that she still read newspapers whenever she found time. She said the relevance of print media would remain intact despite the rise of digital and social media. In an era of misleading information, she added, the need for objective journalism was greater than ever. The chief minister stressed the need for the younger generation to develop the habit of reading newspapers to have access to authentic and accurate information. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
