NCCIA books PTI’s Junaid over ‘anti-state’ remarks

ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on Wednesday registered a case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA and provincial president Junaid Akbar over his remarks about turning Islamabad into Somnath in connection with the party’s planned September 27 protest in the capital. The NCCIA’s Cyber Crime Reporting Centre registered the first information report (FIR) under Sections 9, 10 and 11 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). According to the FIR, a report was submitted to the NCCIA Islamabad regarding Akbar’s alleged dissemination of anti-state content through his official TikTok account. It alleged that Akbar had shared a statement containing threats intended to intimidate the government and create fear or insecurity in society. During the course of enquiry, it was found that the alleged TikTok account had a huge following of approximately 339 5K followers, indicating wide reach and significant public engagement, the FIR says, adding the accused, using the alleged Tiktok post which is accessible through URL https: //www. tiktok. com/@junaidakbarmna/video/7687289176986881301, containing threat designed to coerce and intimidate the government to create a sense of fear or insecurity in society for the purpose of advancing ethnic cause including damaging government and public property within the Islamabad that is likely to cause death or endangers a person’s life, incites hatred and contempt or ethnic basis, taking law in own hand, creates risk to safety of the public, through his statements. The FIR quoted the PTI leader’s speech as saying that we will turn Islamabad into Somnath; just as there were 17 attacks on Somnath, there will be 17 attacks on Islamabad. The FIR says that such statements clearly fall under the very definition of terrorism defined under the laws of the state. Such intimidating and inciting material shared through social media platforms undermines national security by glorifying terrorism and acts of subversion, leading to anarchy and unrest in society and public order.
